ok.. here's what happens when I hit the startup key:
I get a single chime, The power light has gone on, there is some 
whirring & clicking of the hd trying to start. That stops after about 
12 seconds. Then all you can hear is the fan. Also at the hitting of 
the startup key the monitor when connected to the built-in video card 
flashes for a fracton of a second then returns to black screen. When 
it's plugged into  the Supermac card, it stays black.
