i just came from apple's site, where i was looking for something the
epson site claimed i could get if i went there.
i didnt find what i sought, but i did find this:

http://www.info.apple.com/support/oldersoftwarelist.html

a staggering array of older software downloads available at apple.

i scroled down the list and speed read the titles.

my god.
my first impulse would be to get a big 2 gig spare HD and just download
and store every last thing on here that remotely looked like it might be
something that would apply to my needs at some point, just to have it
already. then if it turned out i needed it, I'd have it just to call on.
obviously, you can see i don't hardly begin to understand what the hell
I'm talking about, here.

what i was trying to do, was see if i can use an epson color stylus 640
printer that was in my inventory of free printers we have. I wanted to
put it on one of my 68k macs in system 7.1 or 7.5.5

on epson's site it said this printer can do system 7. it claimed what i
needed would be on the page.
It wasn't.
it had an updater to download, but it said it wouldnt work unless you
already had the requisite earlier download for system 7.x

then it seemed to say that that download would be found at apple.

the only thing i could find on this dizzying list of apple downloads
that seemed remotely related to it was in the printing category under
"other".

hours of reading in the knowledge base turned up nothing i could
directly apply to the question.

the idea here being if i hook up the printer to one of my mac II's, how
will the machine recognize it, and where will i get the driver to run it
with?
it seems according to apple and epson together,
-apple will have something in system 7.x for recognized printers, which
would already be in my system folder from having system 7.x on my
machine
-then i am to download extras from apple's older software page [above
link] for 'other' printers', tho epson didnt , and apple didn't, say
which.
-then i am to download this supposed item at epson [that wasn't there]
-and then i can download the updater for system 7.x that they DID show
there.

honest to god. why do they make it so maddening?

now watch: even if i succeed, it'll turn out that epson only meant
system 7 on a POWER mac!
O H H H H H H H H, you meant on a 68 *K* mac...
<jumps off bridge, here>

what the H are they trying to tell me here?
it's an epson color stylus 640. can I or can't I put it on my 68K mac
II's in system 7.x?????????

and with what?
