When you format a drive on a PowerMac, using Drive Setup for example, you 
may get a disk driver that is for PowerMacs only. It is best to format a 
drive on the kind of Mac (and version of System software) where you 
intend to use it.

Also, external drives are typically not terminated, while the first 
internal drive must be terminated in most Macs.

Get a disk tools floppy for the IIsi and verify that it boots. Then add 
the SCSI Probe control panel. It gives you a quick indication of "bus not 
terminated". You will also want a modified version of Apple HD SC Setup 
(to support non-Apple drives) or a 3rd party formatter like SilverLining.
