Another bit of hardware that did the same was the Central Point Option Board. This connected inline between your PC floppy controller and floppy drives. No need for a free expansion slot. Central Point was one of the pioneers in 3rd party upgrades and peripherals for the IBM PC and clones. Back in the days of floppy controllers being dedicated ISA cards, some of them were able to be hacked quite easily to support single density operation. Then the software called 22-Disk could read and copy many single density floppy formats. The hack was also useful with the Z80 emulator 22-Nice to run CP/M off single density floppies. I ran 22-Nice on a 12Mhz 80286 PC, on a PCjr with an NEC V20 CPU and also had a Xerox 820-II. The PCjr was faster with the V20 running CP/M than the Xerox which was built for CP/M! :) ===== Say hello to Juror #49. Yep, I'm on jury duty until the end of March. Gotta call in each weekend. Fun. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - More reliable, more storage, less spam http://mail.yahoo.com -- Vintage Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
