I also have an HP 550C.  The rollers on that model were a known problem and 
HP had a "repair" kit that they would send you.  It essentially consisted 
of a pad with something on it akin to fine grit sand paper that you 
inserted under the rollers and a disk with a little program that told the 
printer to run the rollers.  I guess it roughed them up just enough to be 
able to pickup.
