You might look for an older version of Apple's Network Assistant program. This lets you do all kinds of remote control operations to other Macs on your network, including shut them down. I've used versions 3.x and 4.x on PowerMacs with MacOS 8 and 9. I don't know what versions would be compatible with your older System 7 Macs.
There are actually 3 ways to network the StyleWriter 2400. In every case you have to install the driver on all the Macs that are to use the printer, and the recommended driver is named Color StyleWriter 2500. You can only use these printers with Systems 7 through 9. 1. Connect it with a simple serial cable to one Mac. In the Chooser on that Mac, select the driver and the hardware port, then turn on Apple's printer sharing and give the printer a name. As long as that Mac is turned on, other Macs can now use it by selecting the named printer in their chooser. 2. Get a StyleWriter Localtalk option box, which lets you put the printer directly on a LocalTalk network. This box attaches to the serial connector on the printer and does not require extra power. You also need a localtalk or phonenet dongle for it. 3. Get a StyleWriter Ethernet option box, which lets you put the printer directly on an ethernet network.
