Hi Merry,
You asked about awnings being waterproof.
Some are and some are not - on purpose.
When we winter in the southwest, we prefer
our '77 31' because it has the light weight
awning that breathes (not really waterproof).
Granted, there is not much difference
between it and the heavier awning
(waterproof) on our '86 32' - but when
there's not a whisper of a breeze and
the sun is intensely beating on the
lighter awning, we think we feel cooler.
If you'd like to swap your awning for a
heavier awning, I'm sure Zip Dee can
accommodate you. You have all the hardware.
All you need is the awning.
You could stop at the factory and
get it done. If you plan that job on
one of your cross continent trips, you
might want to arrive there Friday for a
Monday morning appointment. They have a
convenient courtesy parking area; and
you could explore the general locale
during the weekend.
See how easy that was? Not only can
I encourage you to spend lots of money
and take long trips, but I can even
help you plan the itinerary.<grin>
What a deal!!
There are some other alternatives:
When we used tent poles and a center
ridge pole with earlier trailers,
we used monsterous sheets of plastic
to make the top waterproof and to
create see-thru side curtains. But,
those were the days when there was
one and only one vacation per summer.
We had to make due and we had to
enjoy it regardless of the weather.
Another alternative is plan more of
your vacations and exploration trips
in the desert. Now, isn't that really
good logic for decision making? Save
the price of a new waterproof awning
and use it toward the cost of going
where you don't need a waterproof
awning. That's how you save money and
have a great adventure at the same time.
It must be getting late. I think "some"
of this is starting to become a reach.
Your delete key is only an inch away.
Go for it.
