Volks, I am in the process of making my '59 beetle a little more fun to drive. Shortly I'll be sticking-in the following combination to replace the 36hp unit.
1915cc 9.7:1 compression Webcam 86b with 1.4 scat 1.4's (comes to about 1.43:1) DRD Level 5 heads (40x35.5) Dual 44 IDF's 1-5/8 a1-exhaust system Should be a bunch of fun once I get 'er going.... When I do the 6v to 12v conversion, I need to consider the fact that either way I go I am going to lose the generator mounted voltage regulator. I need to decide between an alternator and a generator. I like the idea of the alternator in principle - it's self contained, but I think it's bulky looking. I know the generators have a couple of other redeeming properties and I prefer the look of them over the alternator. I think it looks more "old school" - plus - I have one so that helps....... To those who have done these types of conversions before......where did you stick the voltage regulator? I understand I'll need to get a little creative with the wiring.....I'll need some additional wiring that doesn't exist now. Just looking for some advice from those who have "done it before" - I need-not reinvent the wheel. -Garrett _______________________________________________ vintagvw site list [email protected] http://lists.sjsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/vintagvw
