Volks,

My 1970 Type 1 has an external voltage regulator (beneath rear seat on
left). When I drive, the "low charge" red light often flickers, then comes
on steady; when that happens, I can pull over, turn around (my rear seat
bench is still out), and tap the voltage regulator with a small wooden
stick. It then works fine for awhile.

QUESTION: Is it possible to open the Bosch VR case and possibly clean up
the contacts with a little fine emery paper? Or if the contact points are
fried, are they separately replaceable? The VR is original so of course I'd
like to keep it if it's fixable. I haven't removed it yet -- I'll await the
advice of the sages.

Thanks,

Bert Knupp in Music City
