Chuck - thanks for your reply to my post.  The only way to really make it 
work is to get the pieces and parts together and start fitting them.  I 
don't recall how the automatic worked on that trike but it sure sounded neat 
hearing it shift like it did.  The guy who owned the trike told me that he 
knew a guy who had worked on those transmissions and that the insides were 
like a miniature version of a chevy turbo 350 transmission.

I'll do some digging and see if I can come up with some good information on 
them.

What I'm running into now is that my wife and I want to go 100% air-cooled 
VW for our automotive needs with the exception of winter time.  I refuse to 
drive my stuff in the snow and salt.  However, until she gets used to the 
driving patterns here (they drive on the other side of the road in 
Australia), we've located a one owner 1964 Ford Fairlane with an automatic 
transmission.  It's old yes, but I can work on it and by and large, I just 
don't like Fords that well.  It's still a classic though and we'll take care 
of it until she can transition into a bug.
