as regards microphones, what type of connection are you looking for? I.E, USB, XLR, or standard jack? are you looking for mono or stereo? how much are you looking to pay?
as regards software, goldwave will do you fine, once you have figured out all the keys. as others have said, it is a nice program. being a bit lazy, I would say that the only thing I don't like about it, is that not all controls are available in the menus, meaning that you have to go through the manual to get some of the keys.
