Or, you can also simply replace them when the time comes.
Those batteries can last quite a while, though of course, as is with
anything, it's based on how it's used, but most I've known with that
keyboard, it can take anywhere from three-six months to as long as a year
for you to need replacements.
I consider my use to be average, daily, but I use my phone more than the
keyboard, and I've finally had to replace my batteries after almost a year.
BTW: you may already know this; maybe not, but there's a piece that you turn
with a coin or if you have long nails to bet to the batteries. It's on the
side opposite the round button used for turning the keyboard on and off.

I see Apple offers their own charger that comes with six or more 
rechargeable batteries. You do not therefore charge the keyboard internally;

you charge using a battery charger and rechargeable batteries.
