Here's one of many articles that talks about performing shallow charges on your lithium ion battery for maximal use http://www.howtogeek.com/169669/debunking-battery-life-myths-for-mobile-phones-tablets-and-laptops/

I did a Google search on "lithium ion battery care" and got hits from sources like ZDNet, CNet, Life Hacker, Arstechnica, Gismodo, Techrepublic, Apple, Battery University and so on. All of which say basically the same thing. Not every article touches on every point though. Not all mention the shallow charges or go into charge cycles or talk about resetting the battery indicator, but if you read a handful of these articles you'll get the picture.

Why don't you leave it plugged in? What's the harm?

No, not harmful, though you don't leave it on there all the time.

Struth!... this is the antithesis of what I've done these past few

One or two on these lists have recommended 0ing the phone to reset the
battery indicator. I do remember reading that trying to ahcieve 100%
isn't
cost effective in terms of how much power it takes to achieve that
last 5
or

less %age.

What's the optimum way to charge your iPhone?
by MacDailyNews
[cfsp key="adsense_336x280"]"What's the optimum way to charge your
phone?"
Simon Hill asks for Digital Trends.

"'The sweet spot for Lithium-ion batteries is to keep them charged
between
50 and 80 percent. This allows for the charged ions to continue to work
and

protect the life of your battery,' says Shane Broesky, co-founder of
Farbe
Technik, a company that makes charging accessories. 'Charging your
device
in

short spurts throughout the day will give these ions just enough
energy to
keep them going,'" Hill reports.

"So frequent top ups, rather than one daily charge up is healthier for
your

battery," Hill reports. "It's not convenient, but that's the optimal way
to

charge your smartphone if you want to ensure the longest life
possible...
'Try to avoid going from 0 to 100 percent whenever possible, this will
start

to break down your battery and give your device a shorter lifespan.'
Shane
suggests."
