In iOS 8, this type of complexity is no longer necessary. When adding an event, 
there is now a timezone field at the start time. Select the timezone of the 
event and Apple Calendar will do the appropriate calculations. In fact, I 
schedule flights with different timezones for departure and arrival times 
(start and end), and Calendar automatically calculates properly.
