I'm getting the same issue and I also updated my Amazon app earlier today. What I'm seeing is a list of the search results with a photo of each item in the list at the left edge of the screen. Placing focus on this photo results in a VoiceOver click sound but nothing is spoken. There is text to the right of each photo with a short title of the item which VO does speak and which can be double tapped to drill down to a more detailed screen. I guess we need to write Amazon about this accessibility shortcoming and thanks for bringing it to our attention.
