I am fairly sure there is an option for Wifi direct which bypasses the router, but I think you have to then use the Brother App, but I'm just not sure. That was from the Brother Website. We just took the easy way and went through the router so any device could print to it without any separate setup. But I really am out on a limb at this point. Good luck, Richard
