No,theApple Watch requires a connection to the iPhone. All things like notifications and so on only work when a phone is paired with the watch. They did say the watch has 8 Gb of memory and some of that can be used to store music so it may be possible to use the watch without a phone to play music or a book by itself, but you certainly won’t get text messages, emails, other notifications or phone calls without the iPhone. At this point the Apple Watch is meant to be a companion device for the iPhone and not a stand-alone device.
