Hi as far as I know if the item is not in the iTunes Store, it will simply upload your own copy. If it is then a matched copy at lossless quality 256 KBPS will be made available to you.

for example 906kbps will be downgraded to lossy aac 256kbps when synchronized
from mac to iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch via iCloud? If you don’t know, can you send
an email to your contact at apple maybe?

I believe there are many people who is interested in this?

I got an email today from Apple Customer Experience about problems I have with nearly
half my Itunes albums refusing to play on my iPhone and iPad and mistakenly tagging 22
tracks as Apple Music when they were uploaded in reality from cd: "I would like to
advise you that a fix is planned for the issue you are experiencing. As soon as it’s
released, I will reach out to you to verify if you are still experiencing problems."
this comes after a 90 minute phone call with Apple Care in the UK who concluded it was a
problem with I cloud music library not with my Itunes on Mac or with my iphone/ipad. When
you get onto the right people in Apple, they are really diligent and want to help sort
out problems!
