Hi Eric, Can you at least backup to iCloud?
I would first try 2 things: use a different cable and try a different USB port. You could also do my cure-all which is a Reset Network Settings to see if that helps. I would also go into the iTunes preferences, go to the Device tab and delete any backups that may be there. As a last resort you could completely uninstall iTunes and reinstall it and of course you could call the Apple Accessibility support line and see if they can help.
