They can be as long as you have storage on your phone. I believe a minute of recording in the voice memos app takes up about 2 Mb, so a half hour recording would take up about 60 Mb, an hour 120 Mb, 10 hours 1.2 Gb etc. I would, however, look at something like Dropvox (note, "Dropvox" with a "v" as in victor) which is a simple recording app that records in MP3 format and which automatically uploads recordings to a folder you specify in Dropbox. If you want to transfer your recordings to a computer this is by far the easiest way, if you use the native Voice Memos app you have to use iTunes to transfer the recordings and Dropvox makes it much easier and basically automates the task. You can even set Dropvox up so it starts recording as soon as you open the app, a great way to record a quick audio note without much fuss.
