As I said, it’s straight forward, here again a summary since I already posted this:
It seems that many screens when you first6 tap on something first pop up a sort of help screen which describes what you are doing. Just close this to get to the actual feature. In the case of calibration, once you get into it, you are basically asked to put your iPhone down on each of it’s six sides, all four edges and then flat with screen facing up and flat with screen facing down. You should do this on a flat surface like a table, desk or counter. Voiceover announces this beautifully and you just have to put it on whichever edge it is telling you and wait for the tone which indicates that step is done and you go on to the next one. It’s simple and straight forward. On another note, this app is somewhat impressive although it can, of course, not be super accurate by it’s nature. I measured the length of my bedroom yesterday which I believe is a bit over 13 feet (I Have to check again with my talking tape measure which is precise to the sixtennth of an inch. The first time I put the iPhone down against one wall, tapped the start button, then picked it up, walked across to the other wall and put it down on the floor. It told me the room was 4 feet 6 inches which of course is ridiculous. I repeated it trying to hold the iPhone fairly level and straight and that time it told me it was 14 feet and some inches, so probably out by a foot at most which really isn’t so bad if you want to just get a good sense of a room size. It seems that I always have to double tap the start button twice, if I double tap it once and move the phone I don’t get the tone to indicate it has finished taking the measurement. If I double tap it and then double tap it again, I actually hear Voiceover say “Start” followed by “Go”. It said in the description that the start button changes colour and I assume the “Go” feedback indicates this. Personally with my small trial I found it very accurate indeed. I started it and then moved it only about an inch and a half and it told me it had moved 1.43 inches. I haven't tried it with actual measurements yet but so far I think it is going to be very good.
