Setting up a wireless router is not necessarily the easiest thing to do. It's definitely possible that the router is defective as was the one I recently purchased. However that is unlikely. For the key you just need to make up a number and keep track of it since you will need it for all your devices. You also may need to change the channel that is used due to interference. Good luck.
