Hi Merv,

I think it's OK to post this since it does still relate to iOS even though I am
going to make an argument against Windows 10 phones. I think one very
compelling reason why one would not want such a phone even if it had fairly
good accessibility would be the complete lack of apps. Apps we nowadays almost
take or granted to have and certainly would think of essential are not going to
be available. Things like Blindsquare, KNFB Reader, Voicedream Reader etc. Even
sighted people find that many apps people want are not there for Windows phones
which is in my opinion a big reason why they have only 3 or 4% of the market
share.
One thing I found interesting was when I read an article a few days ago that
Blackberry is releasing a new handset soon which is running Android, but with a
number of Blackberry security overlays. Blackberry of course is by now in an
even worse position as Windows phones and I guess they are hoping that using
Android on a well-made Blackberry phone which has all the security especially
corporate users expect from Blackberry along with what the Google Play store
and Google ecosystem has to offer it will be a popular option. I guess we have
to wait and see, but given that it's not exactly a cheap phone and also that
iPhones nowadays probably have security which rivals or surpasses that of
Blackberry makes me think it will not put them back on the map as a major
competitor to companies like Apple and Samsung.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi,
When I had vision I had my 5S configured so I could quickly hit my home button
three times and have a choice of reversing color as well as turning voiceover
on or off. Now that I no longer can see an iPhone screen I only use the turn
voiceover on or off occasionally if the phone misbehaves. I have often wondered
what accessibility options some of the newer phones that are not iPhones offer
but for obvious reasons can't ask here, smile! Especially the new Windows 10
phones are making me curious.

Hello Sieghard,

While I agree with you in that I do not find it difficult to either answer or
hang up a call, on iPhone, I will say that I do greatly appreciate the hardware
button call and answer feature on my A T & T Samsung Galaxy S6.

I use my S6 for most of my business calls and when I return to my beloved 6
Plus, I do find myself instinctively wanting to use the power button to hang up
the device despite the fact that I use iPhone twice as often to make and
receive calls.

Since I'm ranting on, anyway, I'll add that, to me, the most valuable
accessibility feature on iPhone, after VoiceOver, of course, is the ability to
quickly invert colors.

This feature was originally offered in Android and Apple adopted it.
Conversely, the new built-in Samsung Voice Assist screen reader virtually
copies most, if not all of the gestures first introduced by Apple's VoiceOver.
As a result, Samsung devices are now a reasonable alternative to iPhone, for
the blind and low vision.

It should also be noted that all Android phones are hardwired to provide
vibratory feedback when the device is either powered on or powered off,
regardless of whether or not it is plugged into an A/C outlet. For the past 5
years or so, I've have been, all but begging apple to add this feature to its
iOS devices as it would be of great value to those who cannot rely on their
vision to ascertain the state of the device during a reboot, shut down, or
power-up attempt.

I guess what I am trying to say is that we, as physically challenged consumers,
benefit when companies copy, and in some cases, improve upon the accessibility
features of other companies.

Mark

While I agree that being able to answer by pressing the home button and
hangingup by pressing the power button might be another easy option, I don’t
particularly consider it difficult to answer or hang up with a two-finger
double tap or for that matter to locate the accept or end call buttons. They
are right there above the home button and are pretty easy to find.

Sieghard

So, this "feature" will not likely reappear.

In my humble opinion, then Samsung's GalaxyS6Edge & other Samsung MobilePhones,
which utilize "its" HomeButton, provide "its" users an easier way to Answer&End
Calls

Cause you can answer by simply Pressing the HomeButton & Ending the Call by
Pressing the PowerButton

Or, you can Locate the Answer&End Call Icon on the TouchScreen & DoubleTap it

Or, you can simply Put YourFinger on the TouchScreen & SlideRight to Answer &
Locate the EndCall Icon to End the Call

No, I am pretty sure this is not an option any more ever since iOS 8 came out
last year. I believe prior to that you could press the power button twice
quickly when the phone was to your ear.

Hi, it's not working since I bought iPhone 6 with ios 8 and even in latest ios
9.1. Is it a bug or the feature is removed?
