Hi Jennifer, You might want to log in to your Gmail from a computer and double check your settings. If you have it set to delete from the server after you download the message, then which ever device downloads it will have the only copy of the message.
Also, on your phone settings, do you have it set to archive or delete? If you want it gone from your phone when you delete it and empty the trash, then make sure you have it set to delete and not archive.
