Richard,
I think your experience and that of others who apparently have no vision is 
instructive and important for those who have some vision to remember. If you 
make glowing recommendations about how wonderful and app is, keep in mind that 
if you have some vision that help you get past some problem, you need to point 
that out when saying how great an accessible something is. I have run into this 
in spades on other lists, where people say this or that thing is accessible. 
But it really isn't in the true sense of the word, i.e., everything is labeled 
etc. and can be used with the screen reader. People have workarounds. People 
label buttons. People do all sorts of things to make something usable. But when 
you say it is accessible out of the box, that means everything is accessible 
right from the get-go. Otherwise, it is important to say what workarounds and 
other things you had to do in order to use the app. That's just my opinion but 
if we don't have standards, we fall down a slippery slope and  pretty soon 
anything that one blind person can use is accessible. And we know that's not 
true.
