Yes, Richard, you make a good point. I've known about the pass through work
around for apps, but many times I forget about it, and when I do remember,
oftentimes it doesn't work well for me. I'm not sure if it's my arthritis in
my hands and the slight neuropathy, or, if it's just that I'm not that great
at it.

Mark, while I'm sure you believe sincerely that you recommended this app
from a totally blind person's perspective, I respectfully disagree.
Unfortunately, I accidentally deleted your original post, but you gave none
of the VoiceOver work around steps in the original post that you now have
included in your answers to everyone's comments. Having to do the VoiceOver
Pass Through gesture and slide left is not an obvious thing to do when
presented with a screen that only says to swipe left.,
I found a good work around fairly quickly because I am used to having to
work around apps that are not immediately accessible.
I've been using iOS devices since 2009, and took to them like the perverbial
duck to water. But, I do not consider an app wonderfully accessible when the
first thing you have to do is figure out a work around because the stated
gesture does not work with VoiceOver.
I agree that once you are in the meat of the app, it is excellent.

Hello Anthony and Everyone who has contributed to this thread.
In an effort to reduce list clutter, I will reply to everyone’s comments
in this one post, okay?
1.
Anthony, you are quite welcome.
I believe Tom has already answered your question as to how TV Guide Mobile
differs from NFB Newsline. I will add that the NFB solution is wonderful
but I prefer TV Guide Mobile as, for me anyway, it allows for more
seamless interaction.
2.
Hello David, I appreciate your frustration and will not attempt to change
your opinion of TV Guide Mobile. However, as with many mainstream
programs that offer a welcome screen, once navigated, the heart of the
program is quite accessible. Just so you know, single-finger,
double-tapping, hold and swiping to the left will move you through the
welcome screen at the end of which displays the Finish button. All I can
say is that I have been using this app for over 4 years and have enjoyed
many, many hours of television programming as a direct result of having
this useful and accessible tool.
3.
Jenifer, yes, TV Guide Mobile gives episode summaries including original
air dates.
4.
Les, at present, I cannot reproduce your problem. That is not to say that
there is no problem but only that I cannot reproduce it on my 6 Plus. As
a possible workaround, single-finger, double-tap on a channel number in
the left most column in order to display only that channel’s lineup in a
simple list view. As for how the app has improved? Well, now one can
change the date and time for the displayed listings. The search feature
is completely accessible. The menu buttons are properly labeled, etc.
There are many, many VoiceOver accessible issues that have finally,
finally been resolved.
5.
Kathy, while I appreciate the fact that the welcome screen does offer a
bit of a challenge to VoiceOver users, once navigated, the heart of the
program is quite accessible. I realize that saying this does not reduce
your initial disappointment as we have become so used to accessibility
being defined by the experience encountered at an app’s launch but there
are other proverbial yardsticks by which to measure accessibility. Once
navigated, you will not encounter the Welcome Screen again and will, I
think, enjoy the power of this tool.
6.
Richard, I assure you that I recommended this app from the perspective of
a totally blind user. Many things are difficult, until they are not.
Case in point, many new blind iPhone users, whom I have supported over the
years, felt deceived when they first began using iPhone saying something
like, “You said this phone was accessible. People told me that it’s easy
to use iPhone but it’s not.” In each and every instance I reply, “I never
said it would be easy.” Also in each instance, after a week or so, they
usually began to realize the power of iPhone. It is no different with TV
Guide Mobile.
7.
Mary, I want to make it clear that I stand by my glowing recommendation of
TV Guide Mobile. I believe it to be a very powerful tool for any
VoiceOver user who wants to browse television listings. Also, on those
few occasions when I do recommend apps that are more accessible for low
vision users than those who are totoally blind, I do not neglect to
include that distinction in my post.
Again, thank you all for contributing to this thread.
Mark

Hi,
TV Listings are quite differt with NFB Newsline. With Newsline, you pick
a channel by entering its number and you get the remainder of today's
program lineup, and you can jump to another channel or move to the
previous or next day's program lineup for the selected channel.
By contrast, when you go into Listings in TV Guide Mobile, you see the
entire scrollable channel lineup, from which you pick the channel you
want and double-tap it. The channel lineup shows you channels and their
corresponding names (for example 120 VH1 Classic), along with the program
that's currently being aired (for example, 8 pm, Live at Darryl's House).
After making a channel selection with a double-tap, you get a similar
program lineup to the one in NFB Newsline. There's much more to scroll
through in the TVG Mobile channel lineup, but the process of picking
channels is less clunky, in my opinion.

Hello Everyone,
TV Guide Mobile just released its latest version; and, in so doing,
has recommitted itself to VoiceOver accessibility.
In fact, the first item listed in the "what's new" section is the
notice about greatly improved VoiceOver accessibility.
So, I strongly encourage anyone who wants a smooth and marvelously
accessible television listings experience, to download TV Guide
Mobile and give it a whirl.
If you like it, please, please send your feedback to them so they
know that blind and low vision people participate in the television
viewing experience.
Thank You,
Mark
