When your contract is up you can have AT&T unlock your phone. AT&T phones are GSM and will work on T-Mobile as well. You will likely have a harder time trying to use your current AT&T phone with Verizon or Sprint, if you can even do that at all. If you had a plan with T-Mobile, at one point you could add a line for something like $10 per month so they might be able to give you a better deal, but these things change so often... I have no idea how blind people interpret coverage maps and all the ones I have seen are published by the providers themselves and always show coverage as an image.
