Sonos is a wireless multi-room music system. Their players start at $199 US for a Play 1 speaker. A Play 3 is $299 and a Play 5 is $499. These are all stand-alone speakers which only have to be plugged into an outlet for power and all three of them can be set up as stereo pairs if you buy two of the same. Sonos also has the Connect Amp for I think $599 which is a Sonos player which has 110 Watts of digital Class D amplification and requires traditional bookshelf, tower or built-in speakers connected to the Connect Amp with speakerwire. There is also the Connect which is meant to cbe connected to an existing stereo receiver or amplifier either by analogue composit/RCA cable, digital Optical or digital Coax. Lastly, Sonos makes the Playbar and Sonos Sub. The Playbar is a high-end soundbar with 9 separately driven speakers meant to go underneath your TV and to be connected via optical Toslink to your TV, it is $699) and the Sonos Sub is just that, a wireless Subwover also for $699 which can compliment pretty much any Sonos setup. You can set up a surround system with a Playbar, Sonos Sub and a stereo pair of Play 1 or Play 3 as rear speakers. A Sonos system can be controlled by the Sonos app which is available for iOS (fully accessible), Android (I assume it is accessible), a PC desktop app which is accessible with Jaws and I assume other screenreaders and there is also a Mac app which I understand is not accessible at this point. The system is connected to the internet via your WiFi or you can hardwire one player to your router which sets up a separate wireless Sonos network. All players have two Ethernet ports and can act as a bridge. Sonos supports about 50 music services both paid and free and you can also play your own music library stored on your computer, a network attached hard drive or directly from your iPhone. The Connect, Connect Amp and Play 5 also have analogue line inputs which can be used to hook up an iPhone by cable or any other source that has an RCA or 3.5mm output jack like a CD player, DVD player, tuner etc. Any device connected to any player is available on all players in the house and you can play music on single players/speakers or group any players you have throughout your house into groups of 2, 3 or more or put them into party mode which groups and syncs playback on all existing players you have on a network. I think that about describes it, it you want to read more you can go to www.Sonos.com. Sonos is a fantastic system with a ton of features, quality hardware, great customer service and they have a strong commitment to accessibility at least for the iOS app.
