All, You can also go into the Voiceover settings, in Settings/General/Accessibility/VoiceOver; and toward the bottom of that screen there is a toggle to turn on/off the reading of notifications on the lock screen. I have this turned off since I don't want my notifications spoken for all to hear. I've found that it works most of the time, but sometimes part of a message will be read before VoiceOver says, "1:20, 1 notification." One other suggestion: if you go into the notification settings, and choose Messages, you can set the number of times that the alert repeats when a new message comes in. I set mine to not repeat, since I don't want to be alerted twice for a single message. Also, if you have a group message thread setup, like I do for people I work with, you would be alerted twice for each message that received. This gets annoying real quick, especially if there's more than 5 people who are sending frequent messages to the group.
