Hi Sieghard,

I don’t know if it does or does not do this, but I think that particular type
of feature isn’t very useful for Voice Over users … I believe it’s only usable
for those with some vision. What do you think?

I haven’t purchased Nearby Explorer yet, but I am surprised it doesn’t start
displaying choices which are narrowed down as you type more.

Many thanks, Richard. Putting the comma between the city and the state and
using the two-letter state abbreviation did the trick. I don't believe I've yet
to use an app on my iPhone that was so demanding as to the search syntax.

I really do appreciate all the help.

Thanks for your suggestion but I've been unsuccessful doing that. Have you
successfully searched for a distant city from your physical location and gotten
it in the results, I just searched for San Francisco California and got no
hits. Is there some magical way to enter the city and state to get results?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Alan,

Use the search button in the lower left corner of the screen. In the edit box,
type the city and state where you want to search. Once you find it in the
search results, you'll find a "Search from here" option. Use that to search
from your chosen city.

Keith,

You haven't missed the boat at all and your suggestion is right on point.
Unfortunately, for the life of me, I can't figure out how to change the state
or the city to what I want so I can find locations and POIs within the 30 mile
limitation. As you cycle among the Nearby Explorer items, you can either double
tap and hold or do a single finger swipe down in order to access the context
menu of each item. The choices available under this context menu for state and
city are:

1. Save location as favorite.

2. Set location as watch.

3. Enable virtual navigation.

4. Close

No option exists to provide a city or state other than where the app determines
that you are. I feel that surely you must be able to do this so that you can
virtually explore other locations further than 30 miles away but I'll be darned
if I can figure out how to do it.

If anyone out there has an answer, I'd love to hear it.

I haven’t been following this thread closely, but have listened to the podcast.
I don’t have the app, but am considering acquiring it, but will wait first for
the forthcoming BlindSquare update to see what improvements arrive therein.

I would imagine that to search a distant location, it would be necessary first
to change the location on the first page of the app as demonstrated by Mike to
the correct country, state, city and zip code. It’s not clear to me from the
thread bits I’ve read on this topic if that’s been done. Once done, I suspect
there’s a good chance the search function will work up to 30 miles from the
location the app thinks it’s at from this information.

Sorry if I’ve completely missed the boat, but with onboard maps, something has
to direct the app to which location to use as its starting point for it’s 30
mile search radius..

Thanks Richard. I tried searching for the city as you suggested but no luck. If
yiu can't search for locations further than 30 miles away, I consider that a
serious short coming of the app. I guess we're only supposed to use it on
nearby locations as the name implies.

Hi Alan,

I have not bought the app yet, but in the manual it says, "Nearby Explorer can
search within approximately a 30-mile radius of your actual or virtual
position."

So it could be that it can't search farther away than that. Perhaps try
searching for the city, then set that as your virtual location, if that works,
then you could search for a place and add it as a favorite.

Good luck.

Richard

I apologize for posting this message here but I'm getting no response on my
posts to the Nearby Explorer for iOS email list.

As I understand Nearby Explorer, in order to simulate a location in virtual
mode, it has to be available in your app favorites or come up as a location
following a search. I'm trying to place a location in virtual mode to which
I'll be traveling later that is several hundred miles away from my current
location. The Nearby Explorer search results appear to be limited to locations
a maximum of 30 miles away. They also don't seem to interact with locations
already saved in one's contacts as searches using Blindsquare do.

Can someone please advise me how to access a location from within Nearby
Explorer that is located in a distant city so I can add it to my NE favorites?

Thanks in advance for your help.
