I agree that the bands and the extra magnetic charger Apple sells are over priced. The watch itself I don't find that much over priced. If you compare it to other good waterproof watches or to a good quality braille watch it's actually not too bad at all. Using it as a speakerphone actually works really well and the quality is amazingly good. I also love the silent way to check the time via vibrations and some of the health/fitness applications.
