Hello Scott, To answer your first question, the Trekker, as does Mobile Speak, automatically announces cross streets either with or without a route being set. This is a feature upon which I insist when traveling alone, in unfamiliar areas.
As to your second question, in my opinion, Apple is not in the business of Map making and, while they may offer very good solutions, I suspect that A T & T Wireless, with its vast nationwide telephone infrastructure has more resources dedicated to maintaining POI updated listings. This is just a supposition; perhaps Apple will prove me wrong as they have on several occasions. (Smile). What are the most significant difference or feature prevents you from using Maps over that device? Second, why do you say that the Maps app could not have the level of POIs that the AT&T Navigator app has? The one thing that everyone has to remember is as time progresses, APple will no doubt improve and enhance the Maps application. I am sure transit information for example will be forthcoming since that is a pretty significant piece that I am sure folks would use. On Sep 19, 2012, at 10:21 PM, M.
