Tara, a hair dryer definitely won't work for that, it does not nearly put out the sort of concentrated stream of high-pressure air you would need. If a bunch of lint has packed down into the Lightning port even air might not do it. I had this happening with my headphone jack on my 6S and it took an Apple Genious several minutes to clean it out properly. The Lightning port is easier because it's larger, but don't use metal if you try it yourself, use a wooden tooth pick, probably best if you let a sighted person take a look, though.
