One thing I found at least here in Canada when I used Uber in Calgary is that with their high-demand upcharge it is often cheaper to take a taxi during such times of the day. It's amazing how a Uber quote can vary even from now to 5 minutes later and while I guess this is part of the supply and demand principal of economy I don't like it too much. If I see the message about pricing being higher due to high demand I simply close the Uber app and call a cab.
