Getting the Keypad to Show up Automaticaly when on a Call

Dani Pagador <axs....@gmail.com <mailto:axs....@gmail.com> >: Mar 21 09:59AM
-1000

Hi, Everyone.
I finally switched my Sim card from my flip phone to my iPhone a week
ago, so am trying to get used to the phone aspect.

More times than not, I have to access the keypad on my phone when a
call has gone through in order to choose an option from a menu, or
enter information. I like choosing from my Favorites list and use this
option to make calls. If I do this, the keypad doesn't show. After the
call goes through, touching, tapping, or swiping the screen doesn't
seem to do much--VO doesn't say anything, so I can't find the Keypad
option in a timely manner.

What are my options?

Thanks,
Dani

Sieghard Weitzel <siegh...@live.ca <mailto:siegh...@live.ca> >: Mar 21 08:02PM

If you take the phone away from your ear it should switch to speakerphone at
which point you should hear Voiceover and you can touch the screen to swipe. If
you don't want it to go to speaker you have to use a headset, you can't press
any keys while you hold it up to your ear since the touch screen is disabled
while the phone is up against your ear.
If the keypad doesn't show up check the options on the screen, one of them will
be to show the keypad.

Regards,
Sieghard

I have always had the keypad show up when I make a call while VoiceOver is on.
This is on an iPhone 6S and on both an iPhone SE and 5S.
I don't know if there is a setting involved, but I will do some checking.

This works if I use my favorites, ask Siri to call, or select the number from
contacts.

Can’t lock the screen when using the Bard app

Mary Otten <motte...@gmail.com <mailto:motte...@gmail.com> >: Mar 21 01:51PM
-0700

I had not used the Bard app in quite some time. Then yesterday, I got a book
that I have been wanting to read but haven’t bought the Audible version. It’s
now on bard, so I started reading it and discovered that the screen cannot be
locked while book is playing. I thought that you could lock the screen. Maybe
my memory is wrong, or maybe that’s changed somewhere along the way. It’s
really unfortunate, as it is a huge battery drain and really, why should you
have to have the screen open if you’re listening to audio? It seems a strange
oversight.

Hi, Mary.
I just opened the app and hit Play, then hit the power button to lock
the phone. The book kept playing.

Under the Audio section of the Settings tab, there's an option for
Autolock during playback. Mine's set to off--I've never touched it, so
assume this is the default. I thought there was a Help option for the
app, but there isn't one. I'm not sure what this option does, but
maybe you could look at it to see where yours is set.

Hello,

Go to the settings tab at the bottom.
Double tap on audio settings.
Swipe about 5 times and you will find a toggle switch called background
playback, Just double tap it to turn it on, and you should be all set!

After you start your book, you can then just lock your screen. It works really
well.

Hi Danny,
Thanks. It wasn’t that setting, but it was the play and background setting
which had somehow been turned off. Once I turned it on, I can now lock my
screen.

simple question, reading a phone number of a contact

Here's a simple question, if only I had thought to ask before. When going
through contacts, if you only need to find out what someone's phone number is,
how do you go through reading the phone number? I'm assuming some how to view
it or if you have to go through putting it in edit. Thanks to any of you that
can tell me how to do this.

Richard Turner <richardturne...@outlook.com
<mailto:richardturne...@outlook.com> >: Mar 21 07:25PM

If you don't want to call, just hear the number, you can ask Siri, What is
Jane's phone number, and it will read it then offer to call probably.
If you just want to review it with VoiceOver, you can right flick with one
finger until you get to it, then use the rotor and turn it to characters, and
then flick down with one finger to go digit by digit.

To add just a bit, when you hit the add call, the person you are talking with
will be put on hold, when you connect with the new person, you will have a join
calls or some such thing, though, it has been a while since I did this, you may
have to hide the keyboard again after making that second call.

But, it works extremely well.

 Question Regarding AirPods

Hi James,

When you connect AirPods with one device, they are automatically paired with
any other recent Apple devices on your account. You still have to use Bluetooth
Settings or AirPlay to connect them when you switch from one iPhone or iPad to
another, however.

If you have a non-Apple device or one that is too old to be paired
automatically, such as an iPHone 5s, you can still pair by keeping the case
closed, pressing the button on the back of the case for several seconds, and
pairing as you would other devices.

Best,
Anna

Do you also happen to know if it is possible to wear one at a time, say when
you are out with a dog, and you want to keep an ear free?

Hi,

When I open the select a different device screen, I can see my Sonos speakers.
When I select them, I get a screen that says that Sonos needs to be authorized
by my amazon account. When I press next, I am just returned to the now playing
screen in the Audible iOS app. I cannot get this authorization to happen.

I have both my Sonos system and Audible app up-to-date. I also do not see
Audible in my list of possible Sonos music services. Amy ideas?

Thanks,

Hi,

For those who own Sonos speakers and who are also big Audible fans like me it
is time to smile.
I was both on the Sonos and most recent Audible beta so I had this for a bit,
but today the puglic Audible update showed up for me so anybody should be able
to get this now or will very shortly.
So, what am I talking about? Well, you can now select and play to any of your
Sonos speakers right from the Audible app. Just above or, for those who swipe,
one swipe left from the “Jump Back” button is now a “Connect to a device”
button.
If you activate this button you find a “Close” button at the top left, to the
right of that the heading “Connect to a device”.
After that you find “This device” which of course refers to your iPhone.
Following this is a list of all your Sonos speakers and simply double tapping
on any of those will start playing your book on the selected Sonos speaker.
There is also an “Edit” button to the right of each of the speakers, if you tap
on any of those you will be asked if you want to open the Sonos app. This would
be if you want to do more advanced things like grouping two or more speakers
etc.
A few restrictions exist, however. If you tap on a Sonos speaker you will get a
message pop-up which tells you that features such as changing narration speed,
sleep timers and bookmarks are not available on Sonos. I think this might be
temporary.
Also, you may experience that Voiceover volume drops as soon as you select a
Sonos speaker. If so just push the volume up button a few times and it will
come back up, it doesn’t seem to go to 0, but it becomes a lot quieter. I had
already reported this to Audible during the beta, hopefully if a few others do
the same now they’ll fix this.
Of course you can also access your Audible library from the Sonos app directly.
First you have to of course add Audible and sign in just like with any other
music service, but once you do this Audible is an option just as Apple Music,
Spotify, Tune In or whatever other music services you are using on Sonos. I do,
however, prefer to play to Sonos via the Audible app instead of playing my
Audible book via the Sonos app. Of course if you play via the Sonos app you are
not using up your iPhone battery because once the book plays you could actually
turn off your iPhone and it would still continue to play.
Lastly for Amazon Echo owners you could of course connect an Echo Dot to your
Sonos system if you have a player with a line-in port and then simply tell
Alexa to play whatever book you want. I assume if you have a Sonos 1 smart
speaker that it by itself is capable of playing your Audible library. So many
options nowadays, but of course that is a good thing.

Best regards,
Sieghard
