Really? Do they have to remove push notifications? I have enabled push
notifications for the Apple news sources that I follow, and like to be updated
with the news. What about mentions? DM’s? Everyone doesn’t want to open their
Twitter apps all the time.

Yeah, it got them to clarify their position alright. They are still going ahead
with the transition, but delaying it’s execution by a couple of weeks. Also,
they still have not shared anything on their new account activity API. So, it
is likely that all third party twitter clients will be completely broken.

Btw, even though there were over 10k tweets containing #BreakingMyTwitter,
their website reports several other hashtags trending with no mention to
#BreakingMyTwitter at all. Scrubbing, anyone?

SO far, the story has been carried by Tom’s Hardware, Cnet and even Cyber
Times. Still, the twitter executives refuse to budge on their position. Btw,
this will also lock out many blind users of twitter.

Thanks for the info, Cristobal. I just looked at the article, and Twitter is
now saying they won't remove the current funcitonality until 90 days after the
new APIs come out of beta. So it sounds like the article got them to clarify
their position, which is great.

This . . . would really suck.

After totally killing Twitter for Mac, Twitter’s next move appears to be taking
some seriously useful features out of third-party Twitter clients: push
notifications and streaming. Losing the ability to receive notifications and
update timelines as new tweets arrive would significantly limit apps like
Tweetbot and Twitterrific which serve the Mac, iPhone, and iPad.
