By definition, all notifications done by twitter are push notifications. I
usually disable that functionality on my end except for DM’s and reply.
Unfortunately, their own client has other issues, such as displaying the
timeline out of sequence. In fact, I have more than 400 ham friends and I
almost never see their conversations because of the numerous promotions and “in
case you. Missed it” from influencers. Also, there is no way to set timeline
sequencing on my end (it’s all controlled on the twitter side for their
client). The web page isn’t much better. I use niteowl here on my Mac and it
does display in proper (time based) sequence. This allows me to follow
conversations (and I can even filter by subject matter, hashtag or even by
user) into separate tabs. I have yet to be able to set up something like this
via their website and their client is a freakin joke.

Btw, as of this writing, nearly 1 million people started leaving twitter today
alone. At this rate, they will have virtually no user base in 1 year. I call
their current actions slow suicide. They will cost many jobs, increase costs to
other interdependent industries and generally screw everything up on their way
down.

And oh yeah, my braille sense U2 has lost one bit of functionality (the twitter
client in it no longer works as of this last week). So much for the $6k that I
spent on an equipment loan over the last 6 years. Oh, and HLMS (the makers of
the braille sense line) won’t drop windows CE for any of the older units. It
would be. Nice to have an android OS on there.

So, we are getting it from 2 sides: twitter fscking us and HLMS no longer
supporting some of their older top rated equipment. Add to that Facebook and
their unethical behavior and I am seriously beginning to think that social
media is becoming a short lived fad.
