I recently changed the wake word from Alexa to Echo at my Echo Dot which I keep at my office because one of my employees is called Alex and pretty much every time I activated the intercom on our phone system and called "Alex" the Echo would try to interpret what I was saying next. It definitely seems to have problems distinguishing when you say "Alex" instead of "Alexa". Second, you could use an existing or purchase a bluetooth speaker, headphones, etc. and listen anywhere within bluetooth range of your Echo.
