I always use this method on my iPhone to bring up both control centre and notification centre and have done so for years.

Now that is out the way, if you slide up from the bottom edge of the screen until you hear the second sound, slightly higher in pitch than the first one, this should bring up your home screen. Slide up further, again from the bottom of the screen, until you hear an even higher pitched sound, this should activate your app switcher.
