I had one of these tactile screen protectors when I had my first iPhone 4 in 2010 but never bothered with it for many years now. I seem to be able to hit the keys pretty reliably, if I miss by one to either side or up or down it's easy to move the finger a bit and find the right letter and of course for more typing on the touch screen Flicktype is pretty sweet.
