I was just curious what you like better aboutoutlook.com versus gmail as I've toyed with migrating to it fully but hadn'tas of yet. for changing email address for everything is akin to moving houseand can be quite the project (smile).

Fair enough, this is one reason why I have recommended Outlook.com (formerlyHotmail) or Gmail accounts for a long time rather than going with yourprovider's email account. I personally prefer Outlook.com over Gmail, butthat'simply personal preference, I guess iCloud and Yahoo would also fall intothat category of third-party, permanent accounts but as you said, Mark,Yahoo had that big hack and I have noticed over the years that if somebody'semail got hacked it often was a Yahoo account. The huge advantage of theseproviders is that you get your account once and it's yours for the rest ofyour life regardless of who is your internet service provider.

When one has a third-party email address set as the Apple ID, then noticesand such are sent to that email address. Now, if that particular emailaccount is hacked, unstable, or is accessible via POP3, only, one may wantto change it. This was definitely the case when all of those @yahoo.comemail addresses got hacked a few years back. In other instances, a personmay have used the email address associated with a company with which he isno longer doing business; say switching wireless providers. In thoseinstances, instead of using yet another third-party email address, one maychoose to use an Apple-owned domain. Yes, one can setup aliases but thatcan be confusing for some.


It's just a matter of choice.

While I greatly appreciate this, if I have to go through all that, just tocreate an email account, forget it LOL! Smile! What is a rescue emailaddress? Apple already has my current email address, if that is what youmean. You know, in order to create a new iCloud email address, you must enter arescue email address. Once done, in order to proceed, you must open theverification email that was sent to your rescue email address and activatethe embedded link.

Also, I believe you must verify that you are a real person by solveingeither a graphic or audio catcha.


I created 3 new Apple IDs last week and I think that is how I did it.

Last week seems so long ago.  (smile).

Now if you are simply wanting to add an alias to an already existingaccount, that is something else.

Yes! When you create a new icloud you write only the part before @, if not,you will get an error.
