Hello Tom, You have received some excellent replies on this question.
I want to add one more point: Recently, Google has been lambasted because of the behavior, or lack their of, of the Chrome browser which has virtually no respect for your privacy. I think one should keep in mind that Google is in the business of data collection and advertising. So, while gMail may have its good points, to me, they are far outweighed by the fact that Google makes it perfectly clear that all of your data, email or not, is mined in one way or another. Now does Google care about the general data of the average user? Most likely, "no," but. You never know when you and yours may become more than average. Like Sieghard, I am a big fan of Microsoft Outlook.com and Microsoft Exchange. Even after all these years, Exchange continues to be the gold standard. However, keep in mind that if you sign up for a free Outlook.com account, you must log-in to your account, via the web portal, at least once every 90 days or so in order to prevent the account from being deactivated; at least, that is what Microsoft states when you sign up for the account. This means that even if you use your mail client to access your account, every day, you must log-in via the web every so often. Not a big deal, so long as you remember to do it. The only way to prevent this, along with removing any unsolicited ads, is to either sign up for, or, upgrade to a paid Outlook.com email account. I believe the cost is around $20 a year. Personally, I think it is well worth the money but there may be some who disagree. Personally, aside from using one's own hosted email server, complete with SSL certificates, the only two email providers that I trust, in terms of data integrity and privacy are Apple and Microsoft. Just some proverbial food for thought. HI Mark, While I greatly appreciate this, if I have to go through all that, just to create an email account, forget it LOL! Smile! What is a rescue email address? Apple already has my current email address, if that is what you mean. When I was trying to create the new account, I had to enter my Apple id, as well as my password, one might think that should be enough though, but I guess not. I wonder why I wasn't asked for all this information during the set up process though. I did do some searching online, and I did see from an Apple web site that some people have been getting the same message I get when trying to create a new account, and according to the Apple site, this has been going on since 2012. Matter of fact, one suggestion I got was to turn off and back on the date and time feature in settings, and power off and back on the phone, so I did that, but no go either! Another suggestion was to sign out of iCloud and sign back in, power off the phone, and power back on, and go back to the mail, and my new iCloud email would be there. So, if I was to sign out of iCloud, then I would have to sign back in, enter my Apple id, enter my password, enter my security code, turn several phone features back on, that I already had on! LOL! I'm just wondering if all this is even worth it! Thank you so much though, but if I have to do all this, oh, it's not going to happen! I will just stick with Outlook.com or my Gmail! Smile! Hello Janet, You know, in order to create a new iCloud email address, you must enter a rescue email address. Once done, in order to proceed, you must open the verification email that was sent to your rescue email address and activate the embedded link. Also, I believe you must verify that you are a real person by solveing either a graphic or audio catcha. I created 3 new Apple IDs last week and I think that is how I did it. Last week seems so long ago. (smile). Now if you are simply wanting to add an alias to an already existing account, that is something else. Yes! When you create a new icloud you write only the part before @, if not, you will get an error.
