Many thanks for this advice. Just to let you know, it was a dirty screen causing the problem. I had a screen protector on and some midge spray had accidently gone under the screen protector unnoticed by me until I got some sighted assistance.
Midge spray must be some powerful stuff as it seems to have completely ruined the screen protector.
