Also, I don’t think the control key works either in WhatsApp because I tried the control plus spacebar to pull up the onscreen keyboard so i could try inserting punctuation that way since the shift key doesn’t work, but it didn’t work. I did report this to WhatsApp and they responded a few days ago saying that they escalated it to the developers.
