Touch something in the status bar like the time, then put 3 fingers on the screen near the bottom and swipe up

I either do not have the dexterity or coordination to make that swipe gesture. Control option m also doesn’t seem to get me there. in that case, I am pressing and holding control+option then pressing the letter m with no result. Ray T.
