I am not sure about the very first Apple Watch, but I bought a second generation Apple Watch in the fall of 2016 and it certainly does haptic time, but I very strongly would discourage you from buying a second gen watch, you will be very frustrated by it’s sluggishness and the fact that you very often get speech when you want haptic. My wife and I recently did buy the newest fifth generation watch and it’s a difference like night and day. You could buy a fourth generation watch because I believe the processor is the same, but with the Apple Watch, still a relatively new category, if you want to have it for years to come it really is best to buy the latest model so you get the most out of the hardware. There is also the third generation watch which I understand was a fair bit better than the second generation, but I guess you really would have to see what the price difference is, we almost bought the fourth gen last year, but ended up waiting and are glad we did because this year’s model has a built-in compass and for my wife who is sighted the fact it has the always on display is very nice.
