Since you wrote to the iPhone list, I'm guessing you plan to do this with an
iPhone.
I do not know of any scanners that work with iPhones, beyond what you can do
with the iPhone camera itself.
For A4 documents, I'm assuming these are text documents, I think Voice Dream
Scanner is the best solution:
You may also want a scanning stand so you don't have to hold the phone about 12
inches above the document if you are doing a ton of these.
Is the plan for the photos to just digitize them?
If so, just use the Camera and have someone sighted crop them so just your
photo is left.
With photos, you want to follow the same distance ratio as with documents, and
have the phone about as far above the photo as the photo is tall.
That could get tricky which is why you will need sighted assistance to crop the
picture later.

Hi listers,

I need to get a scanner for photos and A4 documents. Wireless would be nice but
not if expensive. The main project is a load of photos my wife has but doesn’t
have the time to scan them herself. Therefore it is my job to do the tedious
task and it would be nice to have simple software that could detect the edges
of the photos automatically and prefereably be voice over accessible. Any
suggestions?

Thanks
Ian
