Ian, After reading your post about VoiceOver speed, I realized, you are probably talking about a flatbed scanner for your Mac. I believe Cannon scanners work with Mac or Windows, and I would say most of the USB scanners that do not need a separate power source should do the job for you. As well as Epson, HP, Brother, and on and on. I do not know if they make any wireless scanners, probably so, but the accessibility with VoiceOver will depend on the scanning software, not the scanner. Most are pretty much plug and play if you go with a USB connected scanner.

Is the plan for the photos to just digitize them? If so, just use the Camera and have someone sighted crop them so just your photo is left. With photos, you want to follow the same distance ratio as with documents, and have the phone about as far above the photo as the photo is tall. That could get tricky which is why you will need sighted assistance to crop the picture later.
