Thanks for all the replies guys! This is a rather split discussion I'd say. I was hoping everyone would either say "it's normal" or "nope, get it exchanged immediately." *grin*
It sounds like the tiniest piece of...plastic, or something...moving around inside the iPhone 5. I thought of taking it into my nearest Apple store, but the noise is so subtle that I know we won't be able to hear it in a crowded store. I also tend to worry about my new gadgets a little obsessively, so it may well be totally normal. The device, certainly, functions well.
