I'll admit that I've never been a big fan of widgets and I definitely will not be moving any to my home screens whether they are stackable or not. I ended up just treating these as two separate tasks. What I mean is I went into edit mode on my home page and then I used the button at the top to select the widgets I wanted on my first home page. The widgets I ended up selecting were of the small variety, and it looks like they take up a two by two grid on the home page. Note that the stacked widgets are interesting. They're like six widgets in one. You can edit them to delete widgets you don't want on the stack and rearrange the ones that are left.
